I CAN DO IT!

I'm nearly done on my peplos (!). Hopefully, I'll have a confirmation with regard to this weekend, in hopes that I actually have a place to wear it. It coordinates with my bog dress, as well. It won't be as period as I'd like, but the materials (linen, after a burn test) and the fact that it's hand sewn really makes me happy. I can sew. I just needed to start off simply. I just need to make a festoon and figure out how I'm keeping it on my shoulders, because, seriously, there's no way I'm wearing it with it puddled around my feet. That, and it'd look silly.

So, next is getting material for a superhumeral, a couple of under tunics, and maybe a few more over tunics. And, if I get really into it, eventually, I want to start working in silk. Sticking with geometric construction's best, at least for now.

Yay!

Well, I'm getting better. My voice is starting to go, but I can now keep food down. It's a trade-off I'll take. Meanwhile, it gives me time to work on the icon project for Queen's Prize. My current shopping list comes to $60, which just proves that I can do this inexpensively. A lot of the paints will get used for other things (other icons, mayhaps), and it's not like I'll use all of the gold leafing. At least, I hope I don't.

Meanwhile, I've been dealing with some unusual circumstances... )

Anyway, I'm going to go to bed. Maybe. Sleep is good.

No two ways about it.

I think I may stick this on the blue-surcote-of-doom.

Opinions?

And...this is pictorial evidence of what I've gotten done. Granted, this photo is from day one, and not day...uh...four? But, you can see what I still need to do (I will have to BADLY reinforce the neck and arms). Any pointers would be much appreciated! :D

So, I've started the surcote and have already run into problems: I cut the main part of the garment too small, so I have to make a few more gores. Bah. I hate sewing. That being said, four of the gores are sewn together, and those are at least on the surcote.

I told you I was insane.

Would I be considered insane if I even contemplated handsewing the blue surcote of doom project that's been relegated to the fabric stash at the moment?

I'm hedging my bets toward insane, but I also don't want to drag my sewing machine upstairs to the mess that is my house. That, and I also don't have a well-lit flat space to even think using the machine on. BTW, said machine needs a name. :D

Good news.

Got my economic stimulus checque.

Bad news.

It paid my rent.

Actually, that's pretty good news. It's just a little sucky, that's all.

So, I'm thinking I want to wear a sari for Raid or Trade. The sari part doesn't scare me. I have a couple of long skirts that would work for petticoats. However, I don't have a choli, and I'm having a hard time finding one for someone with a tiny bust and and even tinier paychecque. Anyone have any idea/options/hints? I found some great saris at this online store, including one I really like for $48, but even they suggest that women make their own cholis. Cheapest choli I found was $80, and it didn't even match! I found a place that makes custom cholis for belly dancing for $20. That brings my total up to a little under $70 for everything, not counting shipping. I think I know what I'm going to do now.

Also, my Household brother likes to torment me. It's why he's my brother. I showed him my Wishes and Whims post, and he's turned that into homework for the rest of the Compagnia. I swear, guys, it wasn't...directly...my fault. Jib, you're just a bad influence.
