zephyrofgod: (SCA)

More stuff from SCA events. This time, I went to Twelfth Night at Lonely Tower (which is mundanely Omaha). I HAD A BLAST.

So, it all started Friday. Drove down with a friend to St. Joe, where Ermenrich and his lady, Kasha, picked me up, and it was off to Lonely Tower and to Onora and Iamys' house, where we crashed along with Their Highnesses, Lucian, Dejaniera, Avraham and Jorunn, Magnus, and a few more people that I can't remember at the moment. We had a grand ol' time talking about crazy things, such as this picture of Queen Mary of England looking a bit too much like John Malkovich in drag. Not me. Iamys. But now, when I think of Queen Mary or John Malkovich...yeah, I'm screwed. Moving on. Had a great time. Told Magnus and Avraham (the two obvious morning people, at least at that time) that I was not a morning person, and to give me a little bit of time to wake up and at least be semi-pleasant. More on that later.

Day of the event, I got all garbed up and got there early, as Ermenrich is Their Highnesses' personal herald (and the ascendant White Hawk Herald) had to be there early. So, that meant I spent time looking at the pretties for sale at the merch tables and running around and being a pain in the bum, especially to Avraham. (Hey, he gave me crap. I gave him crap. That's how it goes. :P) Before long, Jibra'il, my Household brother, showed up, and I showed him his kumihimo (which is a late birthday/Christmas gift, BTW), and he's got evil ideas about what to do with it. Hee hee. I also met one of my Household sisters, Rayya (or here on LJ, [livejournal.com profile] yddraiggoch, and she bought me marzipan. Not just any marzipan. Gwen a'Brook's marzipan. Not to be outdone, I bought her some of Baroness Sorcha's widow and orphan beads and strung them up on a piece of embroidery thread and gave them to her because she was admiring them early. That, and sisters don't let sisters away without a touch of jewellery. *evil grin* I had a blast, learned a lot of neat things, and had a lot of fun at Court.

My friend Angus got his Torse (yay!), Dorcas dragged me up with some of the Bardic Guild for a guild challenge at Lilies (I'm loud, apparently. :P), Avraham and Jorunn were appointed to become the Baron and Baroness of Forgotten Sea, a few more awards were passed out, Calontir gained a new knight (Talbot) and then it was time to eat.

I became part of Their Highnesses' retinue that evening (not something I expected), as a few members of said retinue were heading home before the feast, so I got my money back, and this meant that A) I had to be on my best behaviour because I sat at the front, at the table next to the Royal Presence (which also included Their Majesties Northshield), and B) had to schlep to pay for supper. No big deal. There were bottles of mead at each table, and I'll tell you, that mead was FANTASTIC. OH MY GOSH. SO GOOD. It wasn't very strong, which is all right with me, and honestly, my psoriasis isn't acting up too bad, so I think I might have to purchase some for later consumption. I met the maker of the mead (and I feel so bad because I can't remember his name), and I got a kiss on the hand after I complimented him on it. (Hee hee hee! YAY! I'm such a sap.) Dinner was good, but extraordinarily filling. I would have eaten more, but I had been having GI issues all day. I even got a taste of the subtleties on the Head Table, and those were good. I also got the King's Cake prize (and almost sawed all the way through it with my knife), and I shared it with the rest of my table (which was four people. It was doable).

I also spoke with The Baron Lonely Tower, Michael, about various things from glass beads to being an Episcopalian (he and the Baroness are, too), to even the college experience. That was nifty, and I now have a way to feed my bead addiction, thanks to Sorcha.

After feast, I met up with Ermenrich and Kasha, and Their Highnesses. Her Highness was wearing a beautiful amber necklace, and I complimented her on it. She took it off and handed it to me, telling me that it was mine. I'm still in shock, but I'm wearing it right now. ([livejournal.com profile] summersdream, you -have- to see it. It's so cool.) I'm in the process of writing a thank you note to her. It'll be pretty.

Afterwards, it was post-revel. Ermenrich went back to Onora and Iamys' with his lady and watched Stardust, and I went with Avraham and Jorunn to post-revel, where I quickly joined the bardic circle (like I always have done) and proceeded to sing my little heart out. I sat next to a fighter (which, sadly, cannot remember names today. This brainfart stuff just isn't fun), who gave me a foot and back massage. If that's a way to win yourself into my heart, you've just earned a free ticket. I will say that trying to sing and getting a back massage so doesn't work, though. I know. I've tried. I only spent an hour and a half at revel, but Avraham and Jorunn were only there to make themselves known, and so after that, left, and yawned the entire way back to Onora and Iamys'. When we got back, I finished watching Stardust with Onora and Iamys, Ermenrich and Kasha, and Jacob, Avraham and Jorunn's sixteen year old son. About one or so, I got very sleepy, and so went to bed, on the couch in the front room. It was not the place to sleep, as the door would open when the revellers returned. And that happened a few times.

I woke up the next morning with Avraham poking me in the forehead. so, remember that thing I said about how I was going to regret telling people I'm not a morning person? Yeah. Here. He and Jorunn and Jacob were on their way out, so I got hugs from them and was told that I'm expected at Baronial meetings when I'm at my parents. Meanwhile, I'm stepping around a few extra bodies, including under the dining room table, trying to get to the kitchen for breakfast. It was like fighter practice happened and there were a good score of dead fighters lying around. Apparently, there were more crashing at Onora and Iamys' that night than expected. Meanwhile, at breakfast, it was more entertainment, which is always good, mostly in stories about Lilies and other things. Before long, Their Highnesses graced us with their Presence, and we heard yet more silly stories. I can't tell you how much I laughed that day.

We left about noon, and I didn't get home until about two or so. I might sing/play at Bellewode's ball that's in April, but I'm not sure what the next event I'll be going to. Anti is having some issues with me playing in the SCA, and I'm more than a little upset with him about that, but that's an issue that I have to go over with him about.

But that's it.

I -like- getting involved when I can. It makes me feel useful, and that's something I like to feel.

And yes, it was a blast seeing you again, and meeting Rayya, too. I really need to cry more events, though. I really, really, really do. Yelling at people is a trait I picked up by having a younger brother and it rarely gets used now. :P
