[Error: unknown template qotd]And Happy Birthday me!

I adore Goblet of Fire, but I also like Half-Blood Prince, and both are about equal on the satisfaction scale for me.

To quote Jason Isaac, who plays Lucius Malfoy in the films, on the Harry Potter books themselves: "I went off and read the books after the audition and I read all four books in one sitting - you know - didn't wash, didn't eat, drove around with them on the steering wheel like a lunatic. I suddenly understood why my friends, who I'd thought where slightly backward, had been so addicted to these children's books. They're like crack."

And they are like crack, but I don't care. I love them, and I love the characters themselves.

[Error: unknown template qotd]According to my mother, I started talking at six months, where I said the word "hi".

Additionally, this was right after I came home from the hospital after being treated for pneumonia, and my babysitter walked in. I greeted her. Lord help me, I haven't stopped talking (yet).

My SCA family. Don't get me wrong, I can talk to my mom about a lot of things. However, my SCA family has the best of both worlds: friends and family, and can help me through things because of their unique point of view.

I'm not a person that makes friends easily (or, if I make friends easily, I find it hard to keep them well), but in the SCA, I have family that will stick by me and will help me when I need it.

I love you guys.

Socks.

I usually get all sorts of fun socks from my parents, so that's usually a given. I really like socks. :P

As for big items, I'm really hoping to get an SCA membership. I've done enough this year alone in events that a membership would be a wonderful, wonderful gift.

Outside of that, I hope for nothing. I expect nothing. Christmas is a time for family, and I have that, my SCA family, and Anti. And I'm good.

Wow.

This is a bad question for me to answer.

Mostly because it shows how much of a freakin' dork I am.

I do set and turns. Honestly. Most people ask me what I'm doing, and I sometimes find it difficult to explain. For those on my list who are not English Country Dance aficionados, and you know who you are, it's a step to the left, a step to the right, and then a turn over your left shoulder. That's it. I do them over and over and over again.

Yes, world, I am a dork.

Easy.

I turned 25.

And the day's barely started! I'll edit this with everything else that's happened today, and fill y'all in. Does that work?

[Error: unknown template qotd]Let's see. I've, oddly enough, tossed this idea around.

If I were to start a restaurant, I'd probably have an Irish/New American gastro-pub. I love the soul of Irish food, and I don't think it's a cuisine that's really tapped here on this side of the Pond. I'd call it Sócúl an bhaile, or comforts of home.

As for appearance, I love the idea of making it look like a pub, but also having a grand ballroom of sorts, where it looks like an Irish castle. Maybe.

I've got a remnant or two from a café au lait I had as an infant on both knees. That's the closest I've got of that. One looks like a demented bunny. The other one's faded and I can't really tell what it is.

[Error: unknown template qotd]Maryville, Missouri, is where I currently reside, but I was born and raised in Kansas City, Missouri. When I was sixteen, I went to Ireland on a missions trip. Not only did I fall in love with the country, but I also fell in love with Dun Laoghaire. As far as I'm concerned, these are all home. Ireland, for its wealth of culture and my ancestral home (I cannot deny being Irish, nope), Kansas City, for the city of my birth, and Maryville, for the home I make now.

Of course, ask the history major this question.

If we had a way to magically transport the SCA's ethos and philosophy into the real middle ages or Renaissance, I would so be there. Unfortunately, most people in that time period, generally speaking, didn't have it quite so easy, and we can probably conjecture that on the whole, life was pretty stinkin' miserable. That, and I rather like bits of technology. No lie.

Being enough of a feminist...barely, though, the late-1960s might have been interesting to visit, I don't think I would last long. That, and polyester. My skin is crawling as we speak. Mom, how on earth did you survive?

The very last one I'd even be remotely consider would be ancient Greece, but even that's a stretch. With my luck, I'd be considered a lower-class woman, and that just doesn't appeal to me. Women so weren't treated that well.
