musings from work...

It is a beautiful day. Amazingingly, I have both Saturday and Sunday off from work, so RELAXING sounds pretty durn good.
I've placated NWMSU; their money is actually in the mail (wow!), thanks mostly in part to my cheque from last week. Let me tell you, freedom from that is a great feeling. Now, time to tackle the loans (yay...not).
Olive green ultra fine point Sharpies. *grin* My new toy. It's funny, with as many art majors (both former and current) that work at Godiva, I really should be surprised that there are just two here (Kris and myself) that are complete marker fiends. Last night, Kris had waaaay too much fun writing graffiti in the sketch book I brought to pass the night. The kid's talented.
Um. So yes. My musings at work. What's sad is that I'm actually handwriting this just to type it up at home. How pathetic is that?
Lessee...It's been interesting. The phone has been ringing off the hook nearly three hours, a herd of Japanese schoolgirls just came through, buying a lot of our Valentine's sale (don't worry, there's still plenty there...) and for now, it's dead quiet, Eh. Could be worse. I've gotten most of my closing chores done. All that's left are the dishes and the actual closing of the store. No biggie.
And then, I come home to an empty house. Fine with me. *grin* More time to hang out online. Chances are, that yes, I'm online now...*checks watch* Yup.
I bought Geisha: A Life yesterday. Yes, I liked Memoirs of a Geisha, and Arthur Golden interviewed Iwasaki Mineko (the authour), to fill in where he couldn't go. She was dissatisfied with Memoirs, so she wrote a book of her own. I think it superior of the two, honestly. If you happen to be interested in the "flower and willow world" of geisha, I recommend you this book. *blinks* Oh, wow. Just sounded like something off of Reading Rainbow. *chuckles* Anyway, I actually recommend both, but take Memoirs with a grain of salt. It is a work of fiction.
Laurel, one of my other coworkers, just came in with her beau, and soon I can go home! Yay!
So, in anticipation of closing, I end this.

Date: 2005-02-19 09:15 pm (UTC)I have a noted preference towards Brit spelling, much to the chagrin of my mother and my English professors, and I took five years of French, so, while I'm not fluent, I know just enough to get me in trouble...although it does help with music.
As for creative spellings, I assure you I've seen most of them. I went to a mostly minority high school, which was fine, considering it was a college prep magnet, so odd names were the norm. It wasn't until I got to university and actually dealt with people who couldn't write. Horrific. I had to do everything to keep from hurting them severely. *nods*
Canadian/British spelling?
Date: 2005-02-21 03:53 pm (UTC)Enlighten a language-nut. What was the spelling to which you were referring? Was it "night"? Please don't tell me that "nite" is now proper American spelling outside of Madison Avenue.
