Well....interesting week, already.

HRMPITA is leaving. This leaves the store in a bit of a lurch, but we've got it figured out, for now. His last day is next Friday, if memory serves me right. Laurel, Haylee, and I are the people that will be working the most. We all have keys to the store.

Meanwhile, my stepdad is on a new diet. He's been diagnosed by Dr Mom as having IBS, or irritable bowel syndrome, meaning that all the things he likes and has been eating (namely MEAT of the cow and pig varieties, beer, his beloved Dr Pepper, milk products, whole nuts, whole wheat bread, etc. etc. etc....) he can't have. And so, we've all been listening to him gripe. About EVERYTHING. The cost of the soy food. How he can't go out to eat and not get an entrée. (I argued that point. Kansas City has Eden's Alley and Bluebird Café, and the price is mostly right. Didn't work.) How crappy everything tastes. (Vanilla soy ice cream isn't that bad, and I'm the pickiest person on the planet.) Texture is none-existent. (That's true. Texture isn't quite the same.) It's driving me nuts. My brother is now calling him Soy Boy.

Monday, I waited for the bus, outside, for thirty minutes in freezy-butt cold temps. I'm not going out there unless it's absolutely necessary. Ick.

Last Friday, I went to Cy Rudnick's. Really awesome fabric store at Crown Center. From there, I went to look at the pattern books they have available. And I went crazy looking for garb-y things. *grin* This is what I found.

From McCall's:

Crowning Glory, Mediaeval and Renaissance hats and headgear.
Create a Renaissance Top
Return to the Renaissance (chemises in two lengths)
Create a Renaissance Skirt
Create Mediaeval Style
Create Mediaeval Style (Chemises)
Create Mediaeval Style (overgowns/kirtles/etc.)
Madam's Cloak (Kinsale cloak)

Butterick:

This is a part of their "Making History" line.

Mediaeval Gowns
Cloak and Mediaeval Gown

Folkwear:

Japanese Kimono What's great about this pattern, is that it is the classical kimono, sized for men and women up to six feet tall. YAY! I'm not limited by my freakish height! :P

Moroccan Burnoose
Scots Kilts

So there. That was my weekend. Or thereabouts.

What time period/country are you interested in doing? I know a lot of good SCA seemstresses and can help find you stuff online.

I'm looking at sixth century Byzantine, as well as early thirteenth century Burgundy or Normandy.

Then there's the Gaelic stuff.

And Japanese.

But for now, Byzantine.

I'm just trying to avoid paying for stuff, due to the lack of money that I have...

I emailed a friend of mine who does Byzantine and Norman. I cc'd you on it.
