judgedchristian as well.
Last night, I felt compelled to read out of Psalms, and the verse that I decided to read was Psalm 46, where it says this:
1 God is our refuge and strength,
an ever-present help in trouble.
2 Therefore we will not fear, though the earth give way
and the mountains fall into the heart of the sea,
3 though its waters roar and foam
and the mountains quake with their surging.
Selah
4 There is a river whose streams make glad the city of God,
the holy place where the Most High dwells.
5 God is within her, she will not fall;
God will help her at break of day.
6 Nations are in uproar, kingdoms fall;
he lifts his voice, the earth melts.
7 The LORD Almighty is with us;
the God of Jacob is our fortress.
Selah
8 Come and see the works of the LORD,
the desolations he has brought on the earth.
9 He makes wars cease to the ends of the earth;
he breaks the bow and shatters the spear,
he burns the shields [b] with fire.
10 "Be still, and know that I am God;
I will be exalted among the nations,
I will be exalted in the earth."
11 The LORD Almighty is with us;
the God of Jacob is our fortress.
Selah
(NIV)
God is our refuge, not only in times of trouble, but in times of calm, as well. It is He that tells us to "be still, and know that I am God," a powerful testament to His children. It's reassuring to have an Abba Father that tells us to let go ouf our anxieties and to just completely focus on him for all of our needs.
In a way, God tells us to be content with what we are, because no matter our weaknesses, we have a fortress to protect us.
And, a mini-sermon...
Fortresses protect the weak inside of it. In other words, it's for defense. The term is derived from the Latin fortis ("strong") and facere ("to make"), a great way to understand two parts of God's character. He is strong, and he created you and me. Anyway, forts, castles, and the like, are also offensive weapons, as well, allowing soldiers to fight from within (helloo, Helm's Deep, people...). In a sense, this is God. He protects us, yet gives us a place to fight in the war that is not with flesh and blood. (Ephesians 6:12)
