I will fully admit that I'm rather fond of Jones Soda. From the small business ideals to the amount of work they do for charity, I like that they're not an ordinary soda company. The addition of using cane sugar instead of HFCS also helps, too.

Onto the review.

Colour-wise, the pomegranate cream soda is a delightful warm coral colour. (I'm pretty sure my mom has a couple suits this colour that she wears in spring, but eh.) When I think of pomegranates, my favourite fruit, I think of deep burgundy, ruby-like arils. Jones, though, usually uses fruit and vegetable juices (not artificial colours!) to colour their sodas, and this can produce more pastel colouration. It is still a great colour, and is still appetising.

So, after opening the bottle, the bouquet was mostly a strong vanilla base, with sharp, tangy pops of citrusy, fruity black cherry and lemon. (Why hasn't BPAL made a perfume oil like this yet?) It smells wonderful, though a little sweet.

As usual, the soda is lightly carbonated, which makes the flavours dance and sparkle on the palate. It is not a strong pomegranate flavour, but more subtle, more delicate, like their Red Apple soda. The vanilla cream just barely masks the citrus spark of the pomegranate, however, they are not competing for attention.

Overall, it is a good soda. It might do better with a stronger pomegranate flavour, however, it does convey the idea well. Since it is a limited edition for winter, it may prove to be difficult to nigh-impossible to find. The roommates found this at Big Lots in St. Joseph in a 12-bottle case.

Rating: 4 soda bottles out of 5.
