For reference - Wishes and Whims
Jun. 22nd, 2008 11:33 pm![[personal profile]](https://www.dreamwidth.org/img/silk/identity/user.png)
A lot of people, both SCA and not, have lately been asking what my likes and dislikes are when it comes to a lot of things: movies, food, books, music, and clothing. I'll try and keep this updated. If not, kick my butt. I'm going to use this post to essentially put my whims and wishes. Certain things will be marked with an asterisk to denote things of more of a nature suited to the SCA.

Ginger, and in just about anything*
Mead, preferably low alcohol content*
Turkish Delight
Chocolate chip cookies, no nuts
Dark chocolate, especially Godiva
Cheeses*
Noodles, such as Lo Mein or pastas
Greek food, in general*
Mediterranean food, in general*
American Chinese food, generally speaking
Red bell peppers
Mushrooms, and not the magical ones, either.
Vegetarian pizzas (cheese, if it can be done)
I have a preference for raw vegetables.
Cherry Coke or a lemon-lime soda are usually my sodas of choice.
Dislikes
Peas
Raw tomatoes
Green beans
Brussels sprouts
Green peppers (they kill my stomach)
Too much MSG in food (Migraine trigger)
Large amounts of sesame (another migraine trigger)
Coffee or coffee-flavoured things*
Heat rather than spice.
Mexican food, generally speaking. (I'll eat it, but it's not my first choice)
I generally avoid overcaffeinated sodas, though I will drink them if the situation calls for it.

Dislikes
Industrial beige, green, or grey
It's really hard for me to find a dislike with colours. I gravitate towards certain ones, but that's about it.
Won't Look Good on Me
Most greens and yellows
Orange
Lighter browns
Black (but I wear this one anyway, and frequently)
The lesson here: if you think it may look good on me, double check.
Music
Music can be tricky. I like a lot of stuff, dependent on my mood. Most of these are generalities, so if you must know specifics, drop me a line.

House, M.D. - (Season 1)
Mythbusters - (none)
Dirty Jobs - (none)
Penn and Teller: BS! - (none)
This American Life - (none)

+ sliced olive cans (or sliced mushroom cans! Small and relatively deep)
+ cosmetic grade beeswax (I'm thinking about three pounds or so - http://www.glorybeefoods.com/gbf/Shop_ProductDetail.cfm?PC=4&PSC=73&P=13935&Product_Name=beeswax,%20pure%20domestic%20block,%20filtered&Token=97.87.90.2:{ts_2009-06-08_13:39:27}-459164 is the place to get it)
+ powdered pigments from Sinopia (list as follows, most should be about $8 or so.)
- DCCR1 Ultramarine Blue, Dark, alkali and acid proof
- DC2541 Scarlet Red
- DCPG0071 Emerald Green, Phthalo Green PG7
- DC0064 Titanium Buff
- DC0741 Brilliant Yellow (Hansa) Warm Primary Yellow
- PCBC35 Lamp Black Furnace Black PBK10
+ Damar crystals (found at http://www.utrechtart.com/dsp_view_product.cfm?classId=1020&subclassID=102010&brandname=&item=34342 They must be the crystals themselves, because the varnish won't harden the wax enough if at all.)
+ A griddle, electric skillet, or a bunch of candle warmers.
+ A few ceramic mortar and pestles.
+ Natural bristle brushes.
Dislikes
Plastic beads, or otherwise cheaply made supplies
Sewing (make garb, please?)*
Embroidery (I can do it, but it drives me nuts)
Fabrics
This one is definitely more of a nature with SCA, but putting an asterisk on every line just gets annoying.
Likes
Cotton*
Silk (Habotai please, not Dupioni. Slubs are not period for my persona for silk.)*
Linen*
Textures
Jersey (that's tee-shirt material, but only on modern clothes, please)
Anything soft, breathable, and easy to care for.
Dislikes
Synthetics. Some actually irritate my skin, so I have a tendency to avoid a lot of them. Some blends work with they way they're woven. Some don't. If you have doubts, ask.
Textures
Anything itchy, hot, not breathable, or even hard or expensive to clean.
For said clothing, you might need measurements/sizes. These are subject to change. Best way to find out is to actually measure me in person.
Bust: 38"
Underbust: 35"
Cup Size: C
Natural waist: 33 3/4"
Hips: 40 1/2"
Armscye (armhole): 20 1/4"
Middle of Neck to Wrist: 28 1/2"
Neck to Floor: 60"
Neck: 13 1/2"
Head: 22"
Bicep: 13 1/2"
Inseam: 32 1/2"
Shoes: 9 1/2 women's, 7.5 - 8 men's. (here's a handy conversion chart if you need one)
I will fully admit to being notoriously difficult to buy for. I apologise in advance, and thank you for asking.
SCA stuff though, I generally need garb and shoes. I'm not a good seamstress, and I get frustrated by sewing easily. I also like metalwork, but as I don't have the facilities to do this safely, I'm unable to do anything with it now. I'm currently attempting to keep my kit in an easily transportable size as I don't have a vehicle, though.
For more mundane things, a great place to start is ThinkGeek. Those wishlists can be found below, and I generally keep them pretty much updated.
ThinkGeek
Other things are a little bit more difficult, such as for SCA purposes or technology. Technology is expensive, as is SCA stuff (unless, of course, you make it yourself, but even then). I will feel really bad if you buy me something huge for either purpose. So don't. I do answer questions, but beware, I figure things out really easily. :D Part of my charm, I suppose.
Hope this helps answer questions in the future!
